German Life and Letters was first published in October 1936 to promote engagement with ‘German culture in its widest aspects: its history, literature, religion, music, art; with German life in general.’ It ceased publication during the War, and recommenced in October 1947 with Volume 1, Number 1 of the New Series. This makes it the longest-running German Studies journal in the UK, 2022 being Vol. 75 of the New Series, and marking 85 years since its first publication. The journal preserves its breadth of focus, inviting submissions on all aspects of German Studies, including literature, film, intellectual and political history, music, art, architecture, philosophy and cultural studies.
